GRANTS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN BUSINESS OWNERS
2009 Montana Indian Equity Fund
Application is now open for the Montana Department of Commerce’s 2009 Montana Indian Equity Fund that would assist current Native American businesses or new Native American business owners. This year a $7,000 grant will each be awarded to 15 businesses – two recipients from each of Montana’s seven federally-recognized Indian Reservations and the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe. There is also funding for one enrolled member living off the reservations.
For the 2008 Indian Equity Fund, Opportunity Link was on the local review committee that awarded $7,875 each to Native American businesses Square Butte Trading Post and Quality Star Quilts located in Rocky Boy and Fort Belknap respectively.
The application period for the 2009 Indian Equity Fund is from October 1 to December 1, 2008. The application packet may be downloaded from the Opportunity Link website at www.opportunitylinkmt.org/downloads or from Philip Belangie, Entrepreneur Development Program Manager, Montana Department of Commerce at (406) 721-3663 or pbelangie@mt.gov.

gardening/landscaping implements (hoses, sprinklers, garden tools, rakes, shovels, etc.) or
cash donations, and to encourage you to volunteer to assist these nine families in their efforts to
complete their homes. HRDC offers a validation receipt for any items donated as a tax
deduction to the Self Help Housing Project.
Please call me at 265-3699 if you have any questions or concerns on donating or
volunteering. Any assistance your business can provide will be greatly appreciated by the
families and the community. Thank you for your time and consideration. Donations can be
dropped off at HRDC, located at 2229 5th Avenue, Havre. Please make checks payable to
either Mutual Self-Help Housing Program or to Opportunity Link, Inc.
Community Service Work Day Event and Celebration will be held at 9am, Saturday,
August 16th at the Mutual Self-Help Housing Project Site at 14th Place West, Havre. Lunch will
be provided by Taco John's taco cart. Please come and join us in the truly wonderful progress
that is being made!
